Master Danish chair designer Hans J. Wegner designed the Elbow chair in 1949. Since 1950, the chair has been produced by Carl Hansen & Son in conformity to quality materials and the finest craftsmanship anywhere.
Between 1943 and 1945, Wegner designed several chairs based on Chinese Emperor Thrones. With time, he got the inspiration to make the elbow chair. Its minimalist back is both comfortable to use and aesthetically appealing.
Through his design, Wagner provided proof of how futuristic he was. Even though not yet antique, elbow chairs are some of the most collectable furniture pieces around. In the 1950s, there was no technology to manufacture the chair. Yet, it has been in production since then.
It was not until the 2000s that elbow chairs were first mass-produced. Having made the chair for over 50 years, the Carl Hansen & Son company revived the chair in 2005, making it commercially available.
