Dolphin fountains are elegant pieces of art you can use to decorate your garden. Created in the form of jumping dolphins, they have the power of bringing excitement to an otherwise dull garden. They are usually blue, even though some artists may opt for different colors. The fountains could be made from bronze, cast concrete, or other materials.

Like other types of fountains, they utilize a recirculating system to remove and return the water inside. It is simple. Water sits in a reservoir at the base of the fountain. It would help if you filled the reservoir up to a given level before turning the fountain on, or it will dry. A fountain with the right amount of water is well balanced in splashing water and the noise levels.
Under the water in the reservoir, there is a fountain pump with an electric motor. Usually, the pump requires to be plugged into a main’s electricity outlet to work. In most cases, you might have to purchase the pump separately after buying the fountain kit. However, some sellers sell all the required items together.

Water pumps are rated in terms of the gallons of water they can pump in an hour. So, the average dolphin fountain would require a pump output of between 100 and 200 gallons per hour. As much as it is electric, the pump is sealed off to prevent water from damaging it. So you don’t have to worry about the pump getting damaged.
When you turn the water pump on, it spins a set of magnets triggering the impeller also to start turning. Because of that, water from the reservoir rises the tubes to the head. The water shoots out of the fountain back into the reservoir to get pumped up once again.

The water cycle keeps repeating itself, allowing the fountain to keep recycling the water. Thus, there is no need to replenish moisture in the fountain as the original water can run for months. The smooth operation of the fountain also depends on how well you can maintain it.

One of the ways to maintain a dolphin fountain is to remove algae regularly. You can prevent the growth of algae by placing the fountain in the shed, even though that might conceal it from the view of the people coming to your home. If you spot algae in the water, remove it without pulling down the entire fountain. Dip a sponge in a solution of mild soap and use it to wipe away the algae. Only that some algae might remain trapped in the water filters, causing a re-infestation. It also helps add algae prevention products (like hydrogen peroxide) to the water to keep it clean.
