At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of ladderback chairs, perhaps the quintessential English farmhouse chair and perfect for that farmhouse look.
These timeless chairs are mainly crafted from oak and will feature either drop in rush seats or other versions have a hardwood oak seat on which you can select your own cushion. They have that classic farmhouse look and are very practical as they are very comfortable and durable, oak is a great wood for withstanding the knocks and scrapes of every day life. We have had a set of ladderbacks in the family home for as long as I can remember and they will last for generations. Indeed the patina of the oak only improves with age giving it character from knocks, scrapes and the odd spill and stain.

Of course, alongside a set of ladderback chairs you will need a matching refectory table if you are going for the complete farmhouse look. Naturally we have a whole range of matching oak tables if you are looking for that complete farmhouse set up. A set of ladderbacks seems to be simply designed to go around a refectory table. With our inhouse restorer we can match the grain of the wood by polishing it up or down to create the perfect tonal match for a set that perfectly goes together.

If you are looking for something bigger we can also custom make these refectory tables to go with your set of ladderback chairs. We even carry a range of extending refectory tables that you can make bigger or smaller by the leaf system - typically the extra leaves will pull out from either end of the table and can be neatly stored under the table top when not in use. In this way you can make the table bigger for dinner parties or other entertaining needs. All our tables are hand made here in England to centuries old traditions by skilled craftsmen - they are built to last. A lot of our clients seem to prefer the oak dining sets in place of the more traditional mahogany and walnut Regency and Victorian dining sets as they are bit more enduring in withstanding the knocks and scrapes of daily life and use.
