At Canonbury Antiques we carry a large range of Victorian dining sets. Nothing surpasses that classic upscale English dining look than a large Victorian dining table complemented by a set of matching chairs. All these sets are sourced up and down the country and we can ship them to anywhere in the world.
The classic Victorian dining set will consist of a large extending table complemented by some matching chairs. The classic Victorian dining chair is of course the balloon back chair which goes really well with the chunky look of a table. The tables are chunky looking with the bulbous hand turned legs hence making them very solid and sturdy, comfortable to sit and eat at. Typically the Victorian dining table will extend working off a leaf system - you can extend the table by turning the handle at one end which will activate the mechanism to extend and you can put extra leaves into the table. Typically each leaf would measure 24 inches and there can be as many as two or three leaves. Hence, the table at its biggest configuration would be great for hosting a large dinner party. They also work sell in an executive boardroom context.
Lovely set in walnut with matching Chippendale chairs
Our most popular Victorian dining set would consist of the fourteen foot table (426 CM) which can seat 12 people more than comfortably. Of course, if you require we can source and make bigger tables - just let us know your requirements and we can custom make a table to whatever size you required. We have made bigger tables for large interior design projects and for clients with a large dinining room. On these custom order projects the tables are hand made here in England to centuries old traditions by skilled craftsmen, hence the tables will last for many generations hence making them a great investment.
Flame mahogany table with set of Hepplewhite chairs to match
The classic wood for a Victorian dining set would be mahogany. We also of course have some sets in walnut, indeed one of my favourite Victorian tables is our marquetry one with intricate marquetry inlay. Alongside the classic balloon back chair we also carry Chippendale chairs, Regency, Trafalgar and Queen Anne chairs, to name a few. You can try different chair combinations out for size to find the perfect set up to match your interior and look.
