At Canonbury Antiques we carry a range of breakfront bookcases. The term \'breakfront\' refers to the protuding centrepiece and was particularly popular on furniture in the 18th Century. You can also get breakfront sideboards and other types of furniture with a central section that projects forwards.
These bookcases are great for the amount of storage space - the top half is normally a glass fronted cabinet primarily designed for books although decorative items can be displayed here. The bottom section is normally housed with wooden doors and is great for further storage such as files, plates or whatever you like. Some of our breakfront bookcase are very large and wouldn\'t look out of place in stately home or chateau.
These bookcases come in various styles and woods. Sheraton (normally with marquetry inlay), Victorian, George II, Regency, normally either hand crafted in walnut or mahogany - although we do carry a satinwood breakfront bookcase and looks fantastic with the light, sandy coloured patina which looks great against the hand painted designs.
Many of these breakfront bookcases are on display in our Herts showroom so please get in touch for an appointment. You can view our full range here >>
