We were very excited to feature in Celebrity Antiques Road Trip which aired on BBC2 last week featuring Danny Dyer and his daughter Danni. You can view the entire clip above.

We were over the moon when contacted by the BBC to see if they could film an edition in our showroom. The shoot happened way back in July 2021 and the show finally aired on BBC 2 on November 12th. Danny, Danni and the whole team were a pleasure to host - it's amazing how much banter didn't make the show.

For non-UK residents Danny Dyer is a bit of a national treasure in the UK through his TV and film work. He first broke through in the rave culture film 'Human Traffic' and went on to star in the long running BBC soap opera Eastenders as well as hosting The Wall. His whole persona is one of the cheeky Cockney geezer - he is originally from the East End of London. Hence a lot of his language is peppered with Cockney rhyming slang which we appreciate might go over the heads of some of our customers. For instance he described the Canonbury Antiques showroom as a 'proper gaff' - ie a great spot. 'Gaff' translates as house but can be applied to any place which is deemed to be good and worth a visit. We are truly honoured.

Said Martin Worster Snr, Canonbury Antiques MD: "Amy served Danny a small signed brass scientific item with a glass prism on top . It’s probably what we call a sleeper in antique speak . After the purchase Danni asked her dad how much he paid. He shouted out in his cockney accent - born and raised in Milwall, London - 'A BULLSEYE!!"
"This is Cockney slang for £50 ( from the dartboard of course). Let’s hope it does well for charity . I served the delightful Danni a 1930s Art Deco mantle clock for £60 which was recommended by the antiques expert Phil. All in all a very pleasant and memorable day."

Canonbury Antiques has featured in numerous other TV shows and films, back in the early 90s the makers of 'Lovejoy' shot an entire episode in our Westbourne Grove, W11 showroom. 'Lovejoy' starred Ian McShane and was Britain's longest running - and perhaps only drama - to focus on the world of antique dealers. In fact the word 'Lovejoy' is now a catchword for antique dealer.
