A large - we'd say lifesize - bronze Roman Gladiator on horseback has been spotted on the back of a van in the North London / Herts environs. As it was spotted near the Canonbury Antiques Hertfordshire showroom we believe he might have bolted from our large architectural bronze and garden section.
Interestingly - and coincidentally - the Gladiator was spotted on the back back of a St Albans van. Alban was the first English martyr crucified by the Romans for his Christian beliefs. Hence how the nearby town of St Albans (in Hertfordshire, 10 mins from our showroom) got it's name. Is this the Roman responsible? Or perhaps a follower loyal to Alban is taking revenge by commandeering the Gladiator to an eventual slow and perhaps tortous death?
Conversely, we could just be delivering the Gladiator to the large country pile of one of our high profile clients. Where? We can't tell you that...
(Why not visit St Albans cathedral after popping into the Canonbury Antiques showroom, just 10 minutes away)
We have a whole range of other large bronze and architectural pieces available to view at our Canonbury Hertfordshire antiques showroom. We have a recently launched outside section for our larger pieces, including bronze fountains, bronze animals, marble statues, cast iron benches, architectural antiques, gazebos and pagodas, and of course, the former home of the Roman Gladiator.
We are conveniently located just 25 minutes north of London in leafy Hertfordshire right where the A1 meets the M25. And we are just ten minutes away from the beautiful market / Roman / cathedral city of St Albans, where you can see for yourself the history of Alban and his slaying for his Christian beliefs by an errant Roman.
Please get in touch if you would like further history lessons or to perhaps view some of architectural antiques and bronzes.
