I've been enjoying watching 'The Diplomat' on Netflix - some of the plotting is a bit preposterous but the acting and overall quality of producton is defintely worth checking out. A lot of the action takes place in Winfield House - the American Ambassador's London residence in Regent's Park which is spectacular. As ever when watching shows like this, I spend most of my time looking at the interiors and furniture in the background. Where did that Adams console table come from? What type of candelabras are they? Hence in honour of the show, this week's newsletter is a Diplomat special, ie high end interiors and furnishings you would likely see in the Ambassadors house. Highly classical and refined, lots of Hepplewhite, Chippendale and Sheraton, nice paintings on the wall and classical busts sprinkled throughout.
Hence above we lead with - what else - a large period Regency dining table in mahogany. This 18 seater would of course to be great to eat off whilst also being long enough for a tense tête-à-tête with the Iranian foreign minister at the other end. Have a great week...
